What I needed was a way to stop the subscribers from receiving the event after a subscriber canceled it. In my situation I don't want the event to further propagate to the other subscribers after some subscriber canceled it.

The removeEventListener() method of the EventTarget interface removes an event listener previously registered with EventTarget.addEventListener() from the target. If there was a private reason, you do not have to disclose but if possible, do include the reason why you are canceling the event. If you sent the invitation out electronically, you can easily send a note to your guests via the app that was used.
